Painting a transmission tower while it remains energised is one of the higher risk activities in the industry. It combines working at height with proximity to live conductors, and it demands work practices built specifically for that environment.
Our crews are trained in painting energised circuits, with site-specific electrical theory and practical knowledge underpinning how they work. Equipotential bonding of plant and machinery, mechanical preparation and blasting methods for live lattice steel, and the coating systems themselves are all handled to methodologies developed for energised work rather than adapted from general coatings practice.
The reason this matters commercially is straightforward. Transmission assets are critical infrastructure, and taking a line out of service to maintain it carries a cost that usually outweighs the maintenance itself. Being able to do the work live is what makes a maintenance programme viable.
