Waste Water Treatment Plant, Pukekohe

Cake were recently engaged by McConnell Dowell to provide our Protective Coatings and Blasting package to the extension of the Pukekohe Waste water Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Pukekohe WWTP is an existing plant undergoing an extension to accommodate for the increasing Auckland population. The scope of our works at the plant focused on the preparation and application of protective membranes to the main sedimentation tanks, UV Structure and Chemical dosing areas. All areas within our scope were being constructed as part of the extension, and all requiring a protective lining to prevent damage from the harsh acids they will be exposed to when in use. Cake began their works with a sweep abrasive blast of the concrete to prepare it for the application of the Protective Coatings system. With the high level of preparation achieved, our team began applying a range of Altex Coatings specified protective coating systems including Carboguard 1340, Carboguard 695 PM (to fill voids), and Carboguard 696 HBE, followed by multiple coats of Phenoline 1205 membrane to effectively protect the concrete.

This project was nearly identical to previous works Cake had done on the Rosedale Wastewater Treatment Plant, and so our team was very familiar with the process, and coupled with the weather, able to complete the project ahead of schedule.
