Train The Painter Courses

Protective Coatings Courses

Train the Painter- Protective Coatings  is the internationally accredited coating applicator training programme created and developed by experts throughout the industry. The Train the painter programme is accredited internationally by Lloyd's Register and fully endorsed by the Lloyd's Register. The scheme also meets the requirements of NACE No13/SSPS ACS-1, which is the joint standard for applicator training. This programme will prepare you for SSPC’s CAS, C7 and C12 certification programmes.

The training has been developed by industry experts in response to the strong demand for certifications within the industrial coatings industry that now requires personnel working on road, rail, oil and gas programmes to obtain professional specified certificates.

Train The Painter has three modules including:

  • Protective Coatings Applicator
  • Abrasive Blast Cleaner
  • Sprayer Painter

Within each training module you will find a number of training units.

  • Protective Coatings Application – 76 Training Units
  • Abrasive Blast Cleaning – 25 Training Units
  • Spray Painting – 15 Training Units
Theoretical

Training units consist of theoretical training followed by student assessments.

Practical

A number of the training units have practical assessments.

  • Delegates will be awarded with an Orange, Bronze, Silver or Gold card depending on the modules completed and experience in protective coatings.
  • All successful students receive a Certificate and ID card. The ID card is personal to the student and is renewable every 5 years

Route to bronze card

Route to silver card

You must complete Protective Coatings Applicator AND Abrasive Blast Cleaner OR Sprayer Painter.
(1600 hours applicator experience AND 800 hours Blasting operative OR Sprayer experience)

Route to gold card

You must complete Protective Coatings Applicator AND Abrasive Blast Cleaner AND Sprayer Painting.

 Please Note:

Upon successful completion of the Train The Painter-Protective Coatings Applicator module, delegates will be awarded with a bronze card or an orange trainee card.

To be granted the bronze card delegates must have worked in the protective coatings industry for more than 1600 hours.

Intumescent Coatings Courses

The Passive Fire Protection Industry recognises there is a need to improve competence across design, specification, installation and inspection for all types of passive fire protection, including raising standards of Thin Film Intumescent coating and application through certified and accredited training courses and we are delighted the Train the painter Thin Film Intumescent course has received Accreditation from:

Passive Fire Protection

Passive Fire Protection (Thick Film Intumescent) Course for Applicators
This Train The Painter course allows students to earn a PFP ticket in the classroom or online

Thick film intumescent coatings have long been used in the protective coatings industry particularly in the offshore oil and gas sector to protect structure against hydrocarbon fires. The course has been developed to assist in the understanding and improvement of applicators skills specific to this type of material. The course was developed in conjunction with industry experts and many of the major paint companies.

Intumescent coatings are applied to steel buildings either on or off site to prevent structural failure in the event of fire, it is therefore essential that these coatings are applied by trained and qualified coating applicators. Thorough and correct training in Passive Fire Protection (Thick Film Intumescent Coatings) saves time, money and ultimately lives!

As part of the Globally recognised Train the painter coating applicator training program, an independently accredited training course for Passive Fire Protection (Thick Film Intumescent Coatings)has been developed to meet industry demands.

This training program has been developed with input from industry experts and associated bodies to create the first and only accredited Passive Fire Protection (Thick Film Intumescent Coatings)within the UK. All aspects of surface preparation and application of the products will be taught using both practical and theoretical methods.

COURSE DURATION: 2 DAYS (If completed in-class)

OBJECTIVE:
To recognize the principles of passive fire protection. We will also look at certification of products and testing and preparation and coating, along with products and product use, including application, storage, inspection, and measurement. In service considerations and faults, both offshore and onshore, will also be covered.
