Project Description

The One New Zealand Te Kaha Stadium is a new multi-purpose arena with a maximum sporting capacity of 25,000 permanent seats.

Cake was initially engaged to coat the steel supplied by Grayson’s of Auckland to the West Stand of the arena. This area, spread over four storeys, includes the hospitality suites on the upper levels and an open two storey atrium with two full height lift shafts. The majority of the coatings here were intumescent, with high-profile areas receiving a decorative topcoat. Given the high builds required, the coatings were sprayed and we faced some environmental challenges during the winter months.

Our scope of work expanded when we were requested to carry out additional work for Jingong Steel, who were responsible for the remainder of the stadium's structure. This involved remediation to welding, sandblasting of new steel and coating to feature Radial Trusses around the perimeter of the Stadium. This expansion almost tripled the initial contract value and required the use of 44-metre high boom lifts to access the described areas.
