Project Description

Cake were recently engaged by Holcim New Zealand to undertake important maintenance work on their cement Silos in Wellington, New Zealand.

Our team was tasked with carrying out an abrasive blast and recoating of a large cement silo. This required our team to make use of their specialist heights training and install a rope access system to safely abseil down the sides of the silo. This gave our team access to the exposed welds which had corroded due to the often-harsh conditions of Wellington Harbour.

The corrosion was prepared by a high-pressure water blast followed by an abrasive bristle blast. With the silo’s surface prepared our teams applied a primer followed by a high-build Protective Coating System. Strict quality assurance measures were taken throughout the project such as regular wash downs of the coating process prevent salt contamination from the nearby harbour.

Cake are pleased to have had the opportunity to provide our services to the client and thank them for working professionally and effectivelywith us to complete the task at hand.
