Cake Group were successful in tendering the Demolition of the now redundant School at 56 Wood St, Wainuiomata in the Greater Wellington Region. This project was undertaken for Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), a new client of ours who we were very happy to be engaged with.
Stage One of this project involved our Asbestos Removal team working to dispose of the Class B containing asbestos cement sheet cladding. At this stage Cake also conducted an Emu Pick of the surrounding area to remove any asbestos sheeting broken off from past vandalism.
Stage Two of the project involved the Cake Demolition team removing two large steel portal and timber framed classroom blocks, both sitting upon double concrete slab foundations. The site also contained a swimming pool and pumphouse which were removed by our team. The removed waste was sorted into separate categories and taken to the appropriate landfills, and any steel cabling, pipework and other associated materials were recycled where possible.
The locals were very welcoming to our team throughout the project and grateful to have the hazardous site removed from their community, making this a very rewarding project for our team and our client LINZ.
